Meet Our Founder

Candice Scales founded Guilford County Youth Academy with a simple but powerful mission: to create the kind of supportive environment she wished existed when she was raising her own child. As a young parent working to build stability for her family, Candice recognized that many youth programs were missing mentorship, life-skills development, and strong community connection.

Motivated to fill that gap, she launched Guilford County Youth Academy to provide after-school enrichment, mentorship, and opportunities that help young people grow into confident leaders. Candice is known for being deeply involved in the programs she creates—showing up, mentoring youth, and advocating for families across the community.

Her work continues to inspire families across Guilford County and beyond.
